1. Who we are
M17 Athletic ("M17 Athletic", "we", "us", "our") is a coaching business operated by Jason Turner, a sole trader trading as M17 Athletic (ABN 97173198267), based in Victoria, Australia.
We can be contacted at:
Email: info@m17athletic.com
Website: www.m17athletic.com
This policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information, including health and training information, through our website and coaching services, including where we connect with your Intervals.icu account.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
visitors to www.m17athletic.com;
people who enquire about or sign up for coaching with M17 Athletic; and
athletes who connect their Intervals.icu account to M17 Athletic so we can view and use their training and wellness data for coaching purposes.
3. The Privacy Act applies to us
Small businesses in Australia with an annual turnover of $3 million or less are generally exempt from the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). That exemption does not apply to businesses that collect health information in the course of providing a service related to an individual's health, which includes fitness and wellness coaching. On that basis, we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) set out in that Act.
4. Personal information we collect
4.1 Information you give us directly
Enquiries: name, email address, phone number, and the content of any message you send us through our contact form or by email.
Coaching sign-up: name, contact details, date of birth, emergency contact details, and any health, injury, medical or physiological information you choose to share with us, for example existing injuries, medical conditions, or contraindications relevant to your training.
For junior athletes (under 18): a parent or guardian's name and contact details, and their consent for the athlete to work with us and connect their data. See Section 8.
4.2 Information from your Intervals.icu account
If you, or your parent or guardian for junior athletes, authorise M17 Athletic to connect to your Intervals.icu account through Intervals.icu's OAuth login, we may access:
Activity data: completed workouts, including GPS/location routes, power, heart rate, pace, cadence, and other activity metrics.
Wellness data: weight, resting heart rate, sleep, HRV and similar wellness entries.
Calendar data: planned or upcoming training sessions.
Messages or notes you exchange with us within Intervals.icu, where applicable.
We request only the scopes of access needed to coach you, for as long as your authorisation remains active. Intervals.icu is a separate service operated by its own provider. Your use of Intervals.icu is also governed by Intervals.icu's own privacy policy, which we encourage you to read. You can revoke our access at any time. See Section 12.
4.3 Payment information
Payments for coaching services are processed by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. We receive confirmation of payment and basic billing details, such as name, amount and date. We do not store your full card or bank account details ourselves. Stripe's handling of payment information is governed by Stripe's own privacy policy.
4.4 Website usage data
When you visit www.m17athletic.com, your browser may send us or our service providers standard technical information, such as your IP address, device and browser type, and pages viewed. Section 9 covers the specific tools we use on the website, including Meta advertising tools.
5. How we collect your information
We collect personal information:
directly from you, through our contact form, email, phone, in person, or our coaching agreement;
from Intervals.icu, once you authorise the connection between your Intervals.icu account and M17 Athletic;
through Meta's advertising tools when you interact with our website, as described in Section 9; and
from a parent or guardian, where the athlete is under 18.
We do not knowingly collect personal information about children under 18 directly without parental or guardian involvement. See Section 8.
6. Why we collect, hold, use and disclose your information
We use your personal information to:
assess enquiries and provide coaching services, including designing, monitoring and adjusting training plans using your activity, wellness and health-related data;
communicate with you about your training, your account, or administrative matters;
process payments for coaching services through Stripe;
run and measure advertising, including through Meta's advertising tools, as described in Section 9;
respond to health or wellness data that indicates a safety concern for an athlete we coach; and
comply with our legal obligations and resolve disputes.
7. Sensitive and health information
Heart rate, power, sleep, HRV, weight and injury or medical information are sensitive information under the Privacy Act, which requires your consent before we collect it. You provide this consent by:
authorising the Intervals.icu connection to M17 Athletic, for data accessed that way; and/or
providing health or medical information to us directly as part of your coaching sign-up.
You can withdraw this consent at any time by disconnecting the Intervals.icu integration and/or telling us in writing.
8. Junior athletes and children's privacy
Where an athlete is under 18, we require the consent of a parent or guardian before:
providing coaching services to that athlete; and
connecting that athlete's Intervals.icu account to M17 Athletic.
Parents or guardians may contact us at any time to review, correct or withdraw consent for their child's information, or to have the Intervals.icu connection disconnected.
9. Meta advertising tools
Our website uses Meta (Facebook/Instagram) advertising tools, such as the Meta Pixel or Conversions API, to run and measure the performance of ads on Facebook and Instagram. These tools may share information such as your IP address, device information, and pages visited with Meta Platforms, Inc., and may be used to show you ads on Meta's platforms based on your visit to our website. Meta's handling of this information is governed by Meta's own data policy.
You can manage this through:
your browser's cookie settings;
Meta's Ad Preferences, if you have a Facebook or Instagram account; and
industry opt-out tools such as Your Online Choices for Australia and New Zealand.
10. Who we disclose your information to
We may disclose personal information to:
Intervals.icu, to the extent you have connected your account to us. Intervals.icu is the source of activity and wellness data we view, and also holds that data independently of us;
Stripe, to process payments;
Meta Platforms, Inc., for advertising purposes, as described in Section 9;
our professional advisers, such as our accountant or insurer, where necessary; and
any other party where required or authorised by law, or with your consent.
11. Overseas disclosure
Stripe, Inc. and Meta Platforms, Inc. are companies based in the United States and may process or store information outside Australia. Where this occurs, their handling of your information is governed by their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review. Intervals.icu is a separate service operated by its own provider. Refer to Intervals.icu's privacy policy for information about where it stores and processes data.
12. Revoking Intervals.icu access
You can disconnect M17 Athletic's access to your Intervals.icu account at any time through your Intervals.icu account settings. Once disconnected, we will no longer receive new data from your account. Data already provided to us up to that point may remain in our records unless you request its deletion, as described in Section 13.
13. Data security and retention
We are required under the Privacy Act to take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We retain personal information for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law, and take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it once it is no longer needed.
14. Access, correction and complaints
You may ask us for access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you by contacting us at info@m17athletic.com. We will respond within a reasonable period.
If you have a complaint about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):
